In November Brian Grow and Robert Berner at Business Week published a fascinating article covering a number of financial trends associated with the uninsured and uncovered healthcare costs.
The last quote provides a nice end to an interesting presentation of complicated issues:
From his position as chief financial officer of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, a $1.2 billion nonprofit network in Memphis, Chris McLean has grown increasingly skeptical of all these developments... "We get a lot of tax breaks, and for that we should produce some community benefit," says McLean. "If we heal somebody medically, but we break them financially, have we really done what is in the best interest of the patient?"
